Happy Teachers Day
Honor a special educator in your life with a teachers day party. They have gone above and beyond to encourage your child’s learning and potential. Their patience in dealing with 20 kids (and those 20 kids’ parents) is admirable.
Also known as International Teachers Day, this holiday happens globally every year on October 5. Teachers’ organizations around the world have been celebrating World Teachers’ Day since 1994. World Teachers’ Day aims to focus on “appreciating, assessing, and improving the educators of the world” and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching. It‘s the perfect opportunity for administrators, students, parents, and loved ones to show their teachers they appreciate the significant contribution they make to their classrooms and communities.
Consider the following actions that may be taken up by a school volunteer organization:
Hang a sign on each classroom door saluting, by name, the teacher within.
Have National Honor Society, Student Council or other student groups furnish punch and cookies for the teacher's lounge on Teacher Day.
Give teachers candy, apples or other food gifts with appropriate notes attached (e.g., fortune cookies with a note about how fortunate the school is to have a teacher of such high caliber).
Provide balloon bouquets and flowers for every teachers' lounge.
If there are no school-wide teacher appreciation activities planned, consider giving your child's teacher a token of gratitude with these simple gifts ideas.
Spring Survival Kit – Include desk cleaning wipes and tissues — there is not a teacher on earth who can't use more of these with the onset of allergy season!
Gift Card Bouquet - Ask families to donate gift cards and put in a "bouquet" (attach cards to craft sticks) with some silk flowers for each of the teachers to enjoy.
Shopping for Compliments - Fill a reusable shopping bag with index cards decorated by students on one side and with an encouraging note about the teacher on the other.
Your Team is Sharp - Collect donations and buy each teaching team an electric pencil sharpener and box of pencils to get them through the end of the year (and final exams).
You're the Bomb - The science teachers will get a giggle when they see this simple combination of Mentos mints and a bottle of soda in each of the staff mailboxes. Caution: May not be combined during school hours!
Gestures of teacher appreciation can run the gamut from simple to elaborate, but the outcome is always the same: teachers love them. The most important part of any appreciation effort is the heartfelt sentiment behind it.

Prost! Happy Oktoberfest
The weather may be brisk, but Oktoberfest is peak season for fall feasts. Roll out the barrel for a quick tap—invite your friends over to hoist some steins and join you in ein prosit (or maybe zwei) with our boozy Oktoberfest invitations. A party is brewing.
So you want to host your own Oktoberfest party? Wunderbar! Salty soft pretzels, sizzling sausages, ice-cold brews — could Oktoberfest get any better? Historians say that Oktoberfest originated in 1810 as a wedding feast over in Bavaria. But who cares about little details like that? Despite the name, Oktoberfest is held during the last two weeks of September. Though the official two-week festival in Munich, Germany wraps up by early October, it's a beer stein clink heard all month long, all around the world. While you don't have to go all-out as they do in Germany, you will find hosting your own Oktoberfest party can be fun and easy.
Beer:
It's a festival centered around beer, so if you want to save some serious cash, have your guests bring their favorite brews. Beer is obviously very important for any Oktoberfest party. Starting in August, you’ll be able to find a number of Oktoberfest-style beers at your local grocery or liquor stores. Grabbing a few six packs of these or other German beers is certainly a good option. While you’re at it make your party truly unique by having everyone bring their own stein and filling it up for them when they arrive. This is an especially fun idea if you plan to make it a yearly gathering.
Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen: Earthy, malty, smooth, and sweet -- this Berlin-brewed beer has it all!
Samuel Adams Octoberfest: The ruby-hued crowd-pleaser tastes of caramel and light, herbal hops.
Left Hand Brewing Oktoberfest Marzen Lager: The Colorado brewery's medium-bodied lager has a spicy, dry finish.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Okto Festival Ale: This amber ale tastes fruity and floral.
Shiner Oktoberfest: Texas's finest malty marzen is a bracing palate refresher.
Full Sail Brewing LTD Oktoberfest: Smooth and nutty, this award-winning Oregon lager goes down easy.
Deschutes Fresh Haze IPA: Taste the tang of juicy orange with a malty flair.
Southern Tier Pumking Imperial Ale: This sweet and spicy brew is for the true pumpkin lovers.
Food:
Believe it or not, there are more options for Oktoberfest fare than pretzels and sauerkraut. Even though the beer is the star of the show, food is a key part of a successful Oktoberfest party. For a complete Oktoberfest menu, we recommend the following:
Appetizers:
The Bavarian pretzel is a very common starter. Often, these soft pretzels are served with the Bavarian cheese delicacy obatzda
Hard stick pretzels. These are a great substitute if you don’t have the time or funds to prepare fresh warm pretzels for all of your guests.
Dinner:
Sausages (Frankfurter, Knackwurst, Bratwurst, Kielbasa, Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, Bier Brats)
German Potato Salad
Sauerkraut
Red Cabbage
Käsespätzle
Boiled Potatoes
Roasted Chicken
Dessert:
Apple Strudel
German Chocolate Cake (Although this is not actually a traditional German dessert, it is enjoyed by many.)
Various European Cookies. Heart-shaped gingerbread cookies are a particular Oktoberfest favorite.
Don’t feel like cooking? Search for a local German shop or restaurant in your area that you could purchase the food pre-made for that day.
Clothing:
Stylized clothing is the quickest way to get into the right mindset for any theme party, and an Oktoberfest celebration is no exception. Lederhosen and dirndls are the most popular attire worn at Oktoberfest. If you're not a sewer or don't want to throw down a wad of cash on something you'll wear once or twice a year, then make an easy facsimile. For the men, don khaki shorts, a button down shirt, suspenders, and tall socks. For the ladies, a full skirt, puffy blouse, frilly apron, and an optional corset will do it. It's nothing a trip to the thrift store shouldn't fix. When hosting a backyard Oktoberfest party, encourage your guests to don the traditional attire, or at least novelty T-shirts that make it look like they are.
Music:
Even if you cannot afford a band, you should still play music at your party. Luckily, free services like Spotify and Pandora have you covered with German-themed playlists and stations. Put one of these on and do your best to sing along. It’s a great way to keep guests entertained and encourage them to get into the spirit of the event. You may be surprised to learn that German oompah music is not the only kind of music played at Oktoberfest. There is a good mix of traditional oompah and other German tunes, but there are also a number of popular English songs.
One requirement of any authentic Oktoberfest party is playing "Ein Prosit" every 20-30 minutes, just like they do in Munich. Every time this song is played, encourage your guests to stand up, raise their glasses, and sing along. At the conclusion of the song, everyone should clink their glasses and take a drink.
Decorations:
Oktoberfest is meant to be outside, usually in a biergarten or under a big tent. Setting up a biergarten is much easier than it sounds…a real “garden” isn’t even necessary. Rather, assemble a collection of picnic-like tables in a small outdoor area, cover the area with lights and you’ve set the scene!
Traditional Bavarian blue and white is the most common way to decorate your space. Hanging a Bavarian flag, banners, streamers, wreaths, or evergreens will add to the Bavarian feel. Feel free to incorporate these traditional elements into your design or to create a new look specific to your party. All that matters is that you create a space that makes your guests feel welcome. The only thing better than cool decorations are ones you can eat! Make a pretzel garland (thread twine through the top loops or use an upholstery needle) and hang it. Tell guests to tear them off if they're hungry!
Games:
Don't forget to gather the troops to do the Chicken Dance after everyone has guzzled a couple of beers.
When your guests become bored with the Chicken Dance, line them up for beer stein races. Fill their hands with loaded steins and have them race to a finish line. The person to finish with the most beer left in his stein wins the race.
Another popular game is a drinking game. Usually a team is sitting on each side of the table. There are 2 ways to do this; either everybody starts drinking at the same time, the fastest team wins. The other way (and our favorite) is that on one side of the table, the first people in both teams starts drinking. When the first person is done, the next can start. And so on, until the last person finishes their beer. The fastest team, wins. But please drink responsibly!
Chill your beer, warm your bretzels, savor some weisswurst, and schunkel the day away with your nears and dears.
So put on your best lederhosen, crack open a cold one and get to party planning.

Halloween Trunk Or Treat
As fall swiftly approaches, thoughts of pumpkin spice lattes, brightly colored foliage, and Halloween will be on everyone’s mind. The holiday will no doubt be a little different this year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic: Many town parades, festivals, and haunted house attractions have already been nixed. But that doesn’t mean that all festivities will get the ax. Many Halloween traditions are still safe, and others—possibly even trick-or-treating—could be adapted to our changing times.
Trunk-or-treating is one of the trends buzzing this year in terms of socially distant trick-or-treat substitutes. An organized event usually held in a school or church parking lot, trunk-or-treating entails decorated vehicles, and kids go trick-or-treating from car to car. You can host this in your neighborhood, too, with neighbors setting up trunk displays in the driveway and passing out candy. Note: Consider having designated adults (who commit to applying hand sanitizer) give out the candy rather than encourage lots of little hands to reach inside the bowl.
This is the perfect opportunity for families to start new Halloween traditions if you don’t already have any in place. Ghost stories around a bonfire, fireplace, [or fire pit] with s’mores—if no fire, try an indoor s’mores maker. There’s so much a family can do with just a little creativity. Parents opting out of trick-or-treating might also take a cue from Easter egg hunts and hide candy around the house or yard for their kids to find. Halloween traditions have always evolved and I think we are going to see some super creative ways to still connect and have fun this Halloween because normalizing our lives, in small or big ways, is important in moving forward.
Virtual Halloween Party
Among the many milestone celebrations that have been put on hold or canceled in recent months, children’s birthday parties seem the saddest of sacrifices. But when there’s a will, families and friends are finding a way. The holiday that celebrates wearing masks may not happen this year on account of the pandemic. But Halloween hasn’t ghosted us yet. It’s still on the calendar. Halloween candy is hitting the shelves. And Spirit Halloween is opening stores. The good news is Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, meaning families could have the opportunity to celebrate safely at home.
Host a Halloween-themed costume or dance party virtually for friends and family. Create a Spooktacular playlist for everyone to shake their boo things to, and have attendees show off their costumes on camera. You can also gather remotely to decorate and carve pumpkins safely from your own homes. Interact while you craft by sharing spooky stories. At the end, award prizes (virtual prizes or ones you send via snail mail) to the best looks!
When you have to stay home, stay connected through virtual events. Host a virtual happy hour with friends, a virtual team meeting with coworkers, or a virtual baby shower to chat and check in with family. Snuggle in for a virtual movie night, a virtual game night, virtual drinks, or start a virtual book club with your loved ones.
Pros:
No need to book a venue, just make sure that you're somewhere with a good internet connection
Anyone can join from anywhere meaning no one gets cut from the guest list
No intensive set-up or breakdown of the event
No need to provide food and drinks for guests
Guests can "attend" in their pajamas
Guests do not need to travel far!
As you will not be spending too much money on booking a venue and crafting a menu for the party, you should work on putting that effort in finding ways to make the virtual party as fun and easy as possible for guests. You can even organize for gift boxes to be sent to each person on the guest list in advance of the party. This box can include, snacks, costumes and even some games to play when you are online.
Invitations
If you want to create a true virtual party from start to finish, then you may opt for sending out electronic invites. Although since you are having a virtual party, it may be nice for your invited guests to receive a real invitation in the mail and perhaps a virtual reminder before the big event.
Paper invitations also give you a chance to include some special extras for your invited guests, like maternity photos, baby shower games, raffle tickets and whatever other extras that will help guests feel included in your big event.
If you are sending paper invites, then you will need to adjust the invitation wording so that guests know that it is a virtual party.
Note: Before committing to a virtual option, please check to make sure the platform you are using offers the features that you need to make your party a success. If you are unfamiliar with a platform that you are considering, then jump online and test it out. The more comfortable you are with the technology, then the better chances you will have of making it all work out.
So postponed events due to these times?
A baby shower? Kids birthday parties? Keep the celebrations flowing with our virtual event invitations online. Chat and check in with loved ones, coworkers, and friends online maintaining safety and fun. Our virtual event invitations cover any and all of your social distancing needs. Because where there is a will there's a way!
If you’re practicing social distancing and aren’t able to be physically close to your favorite people this year, then there are more than a few ideas for drive-by birthday party ideas that work just as well as a traditional party. The birthday parades involve a stream of cars driving past the person's home to celebrate, meaning everyone can still observe social distancing rules. Drive-bys are becoming a national rage of sorts as people are in their second month of social distancing. Order a big yard sign, set up a tent on the front lawn and through social media and phone calls invite all their friends to cruise by their house for a surprise birthday parade. You might be at home, but you can still have a memorable celebration.
Face Shields for Kids
Face-to-face interaction is key to the education of our children, and we would also like to add that face shields are better than masks for students with learning differences, including autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), because they allow for full visibility of facial expressions that can help them read and understand social cues.
As children get ready to head back to school, there will be many options available in the classroom to keep schools healthy. In particular, face coverings.
For some parents who are concerned with how often their kids mess with their face masks, face shields may be the next best option. With a mask, you may find yourself constantly adjusting it and therefore touching your face, but wearing a shield doesn't really put you in a position where you're touching your face so much, because it's not as cumbersome to wear. That’s why some parents are turning to face shields as an alternative to face masks as they can be a bit more comfortable for kids to wear.
Face shields are a good option for kids because they cover the entire face and make it harder for young people to touch or scratch their nose, mouth, and eyes. Also, if your child wears glasses, a face shield will eliminate the annoying fogging from masks and make it a bit easier to breathe. Plus, just like face masks, face shields come in adorable designs that kids will love.
Face Shields are re-usable, easily disinfected and have a flexible elastic strap for comfort. Made with clear plastic which is easy to keep clean and lightweight to travel with, the shield provides a clear barrier in front of one’s face that doesn’t obstruct vision and allows learners the freedom to interact with their class safely.

Heading Back To School This Fall
Are you prepared to go back to school? There’s a lot going on and preparing can be chaotic. Fortunately, we have an amazing selection of back to school supplies for you to explore. Do your kids have all their bits and bobs from kindergarten through to college or university? Or maybe you’re the type of independent student who’s doing their best to prepare for it in your own way. Even if you’re the teacher who needs to get into gear for the upcoming year, we have everything you could ever dream of needing!
Early this spring, school gates around the world slammed shut. By early April, an astonishing 1.5 billion young people were staying home as part of broader shutdowns to protect people from the novel coronavirus. Virtual education is often a pale shadow of the real thing and left many parents juggling jobs and childcare. Lower-income children who depend on school meals were going hungry. And there were hints that children were suffering increased abuse, now that school staff could no longer spot and report early signs of it. It was time, a growing chorus said, to bring children back to school.
By early June, more than 20 countries had done just that. (Some others, including Taiwan, Nicaragua, and Sweden, never closed their schools.) It was a vast, uncontrolled experiment. Some schools imposed strict limits on contact between children, while others let them play freely. Some required masks, while others made them optional. Some closed temporarily if just one student was diagnosed with COVID-19; others stayed open even when multiple children or staff were affected, sending only ill people and direct contacts into quarantine.
The scenes hardly resemble typical school: Preschool children instructed to spend recess playing alone inside a chalk square. Eight-year-olds told not to speak to their friends. Middle schoolers reminded to steer clear of classmates when entering or leaving the building. Netherlands cut class sizes in half but didn’t enforce distancing among students under age 12 when they reopened in April. Other schools adopted a “pod” model as a compromise. Denmark, the first country in Europe to reopen schools, assigned children to small groups that could congregate at recess. It also found creative ways to give those groups as much space and fresh air as possible, even teaching classes in a graveyard. Some classes in Belgium met in churches to keep students spread out. Finland has kept normal class sizes, but prevents classes from mixing with one another.
In Denmark, nationwide case numbers continued to decline after day care centers and elementary schools opened on 15 April, and middle and high schools followed in May. In the Netherlands, new cases stayed flat and then dropped after elementary schools opened part-time on 11 May and high schools opened on 2 June. In Finland, Belgium, and Austria, too, officials say they found no evidence of increased spread of the novel coronavirus after schools reopened.
In much of the world, schools that closed in March remain closed through the summer break, and autumn will see a wave of reopenings. In places, ranging from Mexico to Afghanistan to the United States, planning for fall 2020 is underway. In the United States, school districts are releasing a patchwork of plans, which often include hybrid models that alternate distance learning with small in-person classes.
Parents unwilling to homeschool indefinitely will have to get comfortable with managing the risk of COVID-19 at school and in extracurricular activities. What will happen in September remains uncertain, but it is likely to be a hybrid of in-person and distance learning.

Happy Pride Month
Pride Month is a time when people come together to celebrate, honor, and show support for the LGBTQ community and its allies. From parades and concerts to various local events and parties there are loads of ways to join in the festivities.
LGBTQ Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. For several hours police tried to clear the streets while the crowd fought back. Demonstrations and conflicts followed for six days outside the bar, in nearby Christopher Park, and along neighboring streets. At its peak, the crowds included several thousand people—and today, the event is considered the first major protest for the equal rights of LGBTQ+ Americans.
There are several purposes for this commemorative month. It is an opportunity for the community to come together and give praise and recognition to the advances and setbacks that have been made. It provides moments to shed light on the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. It is a time to truly celebrate in a festive, safe, and affirming atmosphere.
Pride is a wonderful time to show support as an ally, express yourself and celebrate every spectrum of our wonderfully diverse society no matter where you land on it. Love trumps hate every time! None of us were born to hate. Pride is a time to remember this, and to rejoice as individuals. So get out there celebrate and show your support!
We wish everyone a safe and happy Pride, and remember: love is love.

NEW Custom Face Shields!

Whether for business or for style we cannot love these new face shields enough! Even though your face may be covered, you can still express your unique style with a personalized Zazzle Face Shield. Our customizable Face Shields are a perfect match for those who want a little extra protection around the eyes, nose, and mouth. They are made from a durable, clear PET plastic that is lightweight and easy to wear.
One of the overlooked aspects of facial coverings in our opinion is the lack of human connection. With everyone wearing masks we are missing out on much needed facial expressions. Because everyone smiles in the same language!!! Facial emotional expressions are important social cues in everyday interaction. Behavioral data suggest that human facial expressions communicate both the emotional state of the poser and behavioral intentions or action demands to the perceiver. Did you know there are 19 types of smiles? So show off those pearly whites while still using measures to slow the spread. Also those who are hearing impaired will appreciate the ability to still read lips to understand for sure what you are saying.
Here's why plastic shields, which are already a critical piece of protective gear for many hospital workers, may be a better tool than a mask, for venturing out in public:

In reopening, employers will need to be particularly mindful of their obligations under health and safety legislation, including the general duty to take reasonable steps to protect the health and safety of their workers, provide personal protective equipment where required, and provide information to employees about workplace risks, among other things. Health and safety duties will require risks assessment and implementation of controls, prior to returning to work, to protect employees from COVID-19.
This general guidance will apply to most workplaces, but each employer must develop a plan customized for their particular workplace and employees. Employers should review and incorporate into their plans any guidance about safe reopening issued by regulators. Employers with unionized workforces will also need to be mindful of specific obligations in their collective agreements, including any obligation to develop a plan in consultation with union representatives.
