Postponing Your Wedding

Because when postponing a wedding, it's important to let your loved ones know that you'd still love them to join you—just on a different date! It’s still your wedding and it’s still formal so send a beautiful card.

Because when postponing a wedding, it's important to let your loved ones know that you'd still love them to join you—just on a different date! It’s still your wedding and it’s still formal so send a beautiful card.

With coronavirus quarantines, travel restrictions and limited gatherings in mind, brides and grooms are faced with what to do about wedding plans.

Whether it’s weeks or months before your big day, the more notice you give your family and friends, the more likely they'll be able to join you to celebrate. Whether or not you've finalized a new date and/or location, you'll want to explain why your plans have changed and reassure guests that you'll share more information when you can. If you're using a wedding website to keep guests informed, add a note on the homepage about the change of plans. As you nail down a new date and logistics such as accommodations and room blooks (if different), continue to update the website to keep guests in the loop. As rearrangements are made, they'll surely appreciate the extra effort and direction.

If your wedding is not in the next two months, it’s still OK to plan for the wedding to go on as is. That said, it's important to stay informed and make educated decisions as more (reliable) news becomes available. If you’re just starting to dive into planning, it’s natural to have a million “what if” questions about the future. While all of this is uncertain, we hope this news won’t cripple you or take away from the excitement that comes with wedding planning.

Postponing your wedding gives your and your S.O. more time to plan out details leading up to the nuptials. While larger decisions have already been made, capitalize on the opportunity to personalize your wedding even more. Think through small details or creative ideas you can incorporate into your nuptials that are meaningful. Brainstorm unique table names, thoughtful wedding favors, sustainable practices or sentimental outfit accessories. Not only will it bring the two of you closer during this time, it will also add to the overall guest experience. It will make the day even more special and have guests leave thinking, “that was so them.”

Whether you’re feeling sad, frustrated or overwhelmed, lean on your loved ones for support. Postponing a wedding requires a great deal of time and effort, so try to delegate tasks to your partner, family or friends whenever possible. Communication is key too. Be honest with your loved ones about how you’re feeling and rely on them for support during this busy time.
