Staying Connected While Self Isolating

For those of us who are energised by being around others, being physically cut off from our social circle can be challenging.

For those of us who are energised by being around others, being physically cut off from our social circle can be challenging.

Staying in contact with loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic has become even more important with self-isolation requirements and visitor restrictions put in place to help slow the spread. Try connecting old school style via letters and cards (imagine the joy of receiving mail when your friend replies). It preoccupies you writing letters because it can be dull when you're stuck indoors all day. It's connecting with people and finding a common ground. Swap recipes, book recommendations and even create personalised playlists.

It's magical after a stressful day - you can get an email or an Instagram DM - but when you pick up a beautiful handwritten card that someone's written with their heart... and you open it - it's a whole bright lovely moment. It's a little bit of magic posted through your door and it's so beautiful.

Even a window visit or a letter to those in isolation can make a world of a difference. Try to do FaceTime, Skype, phone calls, texting—connect with other people to seek and provide support. Don’t forget to do this for your children as well. Set up virtual playdates with friends daily via FaceTime, Facebook Messenger Kids, Zoom, etc—your kids miss their friends, too!

Missing our loved ones is emotionally difficult, but remember that self-isolation and social distancing are acts of love and care. Taking advantage of different ways to connect can help us feel closer and support each other.
